SUMMARY:Drawing Fundamentals - Term 2 2024
DESCRIPTION:Program Term 2 2024\n7 WEEK PROGRAM \n  \nStarting with Hands and faces we will be honing our observation skills as we investigate structure and proportions and develop our drawing language for translating a 3 dimensional subject onto a 2 dimensional surface. We will look at how other artists have done this. We will explore self-portraiture and finish with observing nature. \n  \nWEEK 1 \nMy Other Hand: after Albrecht Durer \nAlbrecht Durer was a German artist credited with bringing ideas of the Italian Renaissance to northern Europe. He was constant explorer of his world through drawing. One series of drawings shows his investigation of his left hand. Using pencil and pen we will draw our own non dominant hand in a variety of poses and gestures considering positive and negative space. \n  \n \n  \nWEEK 2 \nHeads and Faces I: The Skull \nWe will draw the skull from a clay model. We will also investigate drawings by various artists to understand development of volume and form on a 2 dimensional surface. \n  \n  \n  \nWEEK 3 \nHeads and Faces II: The Portrait Bust and Donatello \nTurning our attention to heads and faces we will learn about structure and proportions as we draw\, with pencil and charcoal\, the resident Donatello cast sculpture of Niccolo da Uzzano. \n \n  \nWEEK 4 \nHeads and Faces III: Self Portrait \nFollowing on from last week we will observe our own faces and draw a self-portrait. We will consider the self-portraits drawn by other artists such as Durer\, Rembrandt\, Leonardo Da Vinci and Egon Schiele. We will experiment with various media. \n  \nWEEK 5 \nWildflowers after Cressida Campbell \nWe will look at the work of prodigious Australian artist Cressida Campbell\, particularly her drawings and prints of Australian wildflowers. This week we will draw wildflowers using various media and use wax resist to create unique compositions. \n  \nCressida CampbellWhite waratah 2000carved woodblock\, hand painted in watercolour pigment51.5 x 57 cm blockArt Gallery of New South WalesMargaret Hannah Olley Art Trust 2002© Cressida Campbell. Licensed by Copyright AgencyPhoto: AGNSW\nWEEK 6 \nA bushwalk I \nOver 2 weeks we will draw nature. We will work from objects collected from a bushwalk: leaves\, bark\, branches\, flowers\, cones and nuts [you are welcome to bring in some natural objects if desired]. We will carefully observe the overall structure as well as texture and patterns of these forms from nature to create drawings and rubbings using various media. \n  \nWEEK 7 \nA bushwalk II \nThis week we use the natural objects as subjects to make a compelling compostion using various drawing media. We will look at the work of artists Cressida Campbell\, Jennifer Keeler-Milne and Simryn Gill for compositional inspiration. \n  \n  \n  \nMATERIALS & EQUIPMENT LIST \n\nPencils\, a range from 2B through to 6B\nCharcoal – willow\, various thicknesses\nSoft Pastels (small set of range of colours)\nPutty Erasers and Hard Erasures\nPencil sharpener or Stanley knife\nPaper\, A3 drawing pad\nApron (optional)\nBlack ink and soft brush (no 4 size)\nOil pastels: a small set of a range of colours\n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Life Drawing - Term 2 2024
DESCRIPTION:Life drawing is a constant state of discovery and immediacy as we learn to see and feel the human form from a drawing perspective. \nArtist and tutor Christine Simpson will take you on a journey to explore the landscape of the human figure. We will consider in different sessions rhythm; form; depth; gravity; the power of the line; tonal shapes and relationships; emotional sensations; shadow-play; and the building blocks of anatomy. \nIn these life drawing sessions we are involved in the act of seeing both the energy and construction of the human form to render a sense of what is\, rather then slavishly trying to get there by copying. We are endeavouring to see creatively and not to use the thinking brain to analyse and objectify. \nThis Term we will be specifically focusing on volume and depth in our life drawing practice. \nClass dates\n\nMay 2nd\nMay 16th\nMay 30th\nJune 13th\nJune 27th\n\nMaterials List\n\n6B\, 2B and HB lead pencils\nGraphite stick\nWillow charcoal\nPutty erasure\nA3 drawing pad\n\nPrivacy Agreement for Online Students\nTo protect our models privacy Sydney Art Space makes it clear that online\, or indeed face to face students do not have permission to record images of the model or distribute images and that it is illegal to do so without consent\, which in this case would not be given. So that we are all on the same page there will be a form regarding model privacy sent out upon enrolment to sign before inclusion in the online classes. \nNOTE: When enrolling for a course or workshop please make sure you put the appropriate number of students enrolling in the enrolment box.
