SUMMARY:Teens Art Club - Term 3 2024
DESCRIPTION:7 Week Program\nThis term we will use clay to create wearable sculptures and make artworks inspired by trees and the ocean environment. \nWeek 1\nSomething to Wear..\nMake wearable sculptures using clay inspired by creatures (perhaps endangered) from the rock pools. We will start with making clay pieces experimenting with form and colour\, to be turned into pendants\, beads or ear rings. After firing we will finish them off later in the term ready to be worn\, for yourself or as a gift. \n \nWeek 2\nTrees are Wild!\nWe will spend 3 sessions making artworks inspired by trees. They are wild in so many ways! This week we will delve into detail\, examining texture of bark and leaves\, making rubbings with charcoal and graphite on paper\, using these to make collaged and woven artworks. \nWeek 3\nTrees are Wild! (cont.)\nPaint a tree!\nTrees can be very beautiful to look at\, they can be symbols of life and growth\, have a spiritual value\, or we can appreciate them for useful things like shade and shelter and providing homes for birds and animals. \nWhich tree is your kind of tree? Choose a tree which is special to you\, think about its characteristics beforehand. \nFor example: \n\nIs it tall and straight\, or bendy and willowy\, or a canopy that spreads out?\nIs it fast and hot to burn\, or slow to burn?\nDoes it need lots of water or can it handle arid conditions?\nWe will start this week making an underpainting\, tonal study of your tree.\n\nVan Gogh\, Mulberry Tree\, 1889\nWeek 4\nTrees are Wild! (cont.)\nPaint a tree!\nWe will finish off this week by making an overpainting and introducing colour to your special tree artwork. We will use leftover paint to make prints of leaves. \n  \n \nWeek 5\nAwesome oceans!\nCreatures of the deep\nEvery winter whales make their wondrous journey up and down our coast. Using charcoal and soft pastel we will draw whales in the ocean. \nWeek 6\nAwesome oceans!\nReefs and Rockpools\nWe will begin to create an acrylic painting inspired by the artist Laura Jones and her environmental artworks regarding rock pools\, reefs and bleaching. Perhaps you will include a diver or snorkeller in your underwater wonderland or underwater warning! Start this week. \nLaura Jones Soft stars and crystal caterpillars\, oil on linen\, 2019\nWeek 7\nAwesome oceans!\nReefs and Rockpools\nWe will continue to create an acrylic painting inspired by the artist Laura Jones and her environmental artworks regarding rock pools\, reefs and bleaching. Perhaps you will include a diver or snorkeller in your underwater wonderland or warning! You may like to introduce thread. Complete this week. \nAnd we will finish off the ceramic jewellery made earlier in the term if time otherwise the pieces can be taken home and painted using acrylic paint. \nNote\nPlease supply and apron or art shirt. Particularly when we are using acrylic paints. These protect your clothes! \nSketch book\nI intend that this course supports the students own creative journey. They should each bring a small sketch book with them\, to record and develop their own ideas\, dream up their own projects\, and practice drawing. Sometimes in the process of art making there is waiting time\, perhaps waiting for something to dry\, or to take turns in using a particular process or piece of equipment. During these times the student can be using their sketch book. \nCreative Kids Rebate\nYou can use a $50 Creative Kids Voucher if enrolling for a half or full term. To find out all about it and how to apply for your 2024 voucher please go to: www.service.nsw.gov.au/campaign/creative-kids \nNOTE: When enrolling for a course or workshop please make sure you put the appropriate number of students enrolling in the enrolment box.

We will experiment with various media. \nWEEK 5\nWildflowers after Cressida Campbell\nWe will look at the work of prodigious Australian artist Cressida Campbell\, particularly her drawings and prints of Australian wildflowers. This week we will draw wildflowers using various media and use wax resist to create unique compositions. \nCressida Campbell\, White waratah 2000\nWEEK 6\nA bushwalk I\nOver 2 weeks we will draw nature. We will work from objects collected from a bushwalk: leaves\, bark\, branches\, flowers\, cones and nuts [you are welcome to bring in some natural objects if desired]. We will carefully observe the overall structure as well as texture and patterns of these forms from nature to create drawings and rubbings using various media. \nWEEK 7\nA bushwalk II\nThis week we use the natural objects as subjects to make a compelling composition using various drawing media. SUMMARY:Life Drawing - Term 3 2024
DESCRIPTION:Life drawing is a constant state of discovery and immediacy as we learn to see and feel the human form from a drawing perspective. \nArtist and tutor Christine Simpson will take you on a journey to explore the landscape of the human figure. We will consider in different sessions rhythm; form; depth; gravity; the power of the line; tonal shapes and relationships; emotional sensations; shadow-play; and the building blocks of anatomy. \nIn these life drawing sessions we are involved in the act of seeing both the energy and construction of the human form to render a sense of what is\, rather then slavishly trying to get there by copying. We are endeavouring to see creatively and not to use the thinking brain to analyse and objectify. \nThis Term we will be specifically focusing on volume and depth in our life drawing practice. \nClass dates\n\nJuly 25th\nAugust 8th\nAugust 22nd\nSeptember 5th\n\nMaterials List\n\n6B\, 2B and HB lead pencils\nGraphite stick\nWillow charcoal\nPutty erasure\nA3 drawing pad\n\nPrivacy Agreement for Online Students\nTo protect our models privacy Sydney Art Space makes it clear that online\, or indeed face to face students do not have permission to record images of the model or distribute images and that it is illegal to do so without consent\, which in this case would not be given. So that we are all on the same page there will be a form regarding model privacy sent out upon enrolment to sign before inclusion in the online classes. \nNOTE: When enrolling for a course or workshop please make sure you put the appropriate number of students enrolling in the enrolment box.
