SUMMARY:Teens Art Club - Term 4 2024
DESCRIPTION:8 Week Program\nTo finish the year\, this term Teens will create projects learning techniques in clay sculpture\, mixed media and painting. You will be encouraged to exercise your imagination and develop individual ideas. We will take inspiration from how other artists and mother nature have done it! \nWeek 1\nHybrid Creatures: Clay Coils and Sculpture\nOver 3 weeks we will make a sculpture made of clay using coils to build an imaginary/ hybrid creature. \nTeens will begin by planning your individual sculpture via drawing and collage to develop an idea of the potential form. \n \nWeek 2\nHybrid Creatures: Clay Coils and Sculpture\nThis week Teens will begin to make your individual imagined hybrid creature. We will practice coil hand building techniques to develop the 3D form. \nHybrid creatures\nWeek 3\nHybrid Creatures: Clay Coils and Sculpture\nThis week Teens will finish making your individual sculptures. When complete they will be left to dry and hopefully fired for the end of term to take home and enjoy. \nWeek 4\nShapeshifters: Mixed media: Exploring Ink\nOver 3 weeks we will create an artwork using ink\, oil pastel and watercolour. We will introduce a new material each week\, experimenting and ‘playing’ with each material on smaller ‘postcard’ artworks for practice. \nEach week we will investigate the phenomena of natural shapeshifters\, beginning week 4 with the incredible octopus! This week we will work with ink. \nWeek 5\nShapeshifters: Mixed media: Exploring Oil Pastel\nEach week we will investigate the phenomena of natural shapeshifters\, week 5 the magical Nautilus! This week we will work with oil pastel. \nStudent work\, Jellyfish\, watercolour\nWeek 6\nShapeshifters: Mixed media: Exploring Watercolour\nEach week we will investigate the phenomena of natural shapeshifters\, week 6 the astonishing jellyfish! This week we will work with watercolour. \nIf time we will explore a shapeshifting palimpsest using a mix of ink\, oil pastel and watercolour. \nWeek 7\nAcrylic Landscape Painting inspired by Sidney Nolan\nTeens will create a landscape painting using acrylic paint on canvas. Selecting 3 images from Sidney Nolan’s oeuvre used to inspire you to create an Australian landscape from your imagination\, perhaps using Australian folklore or current newsworthy stories [for example: koala habitats and logging] to develop a unique composition. \nThis week we will select images\, discuss\, plan\, sketch and start our underpainting on canvas. \nSidney Nolan\, Bird in Landscape 1977\, oil on canvas\nWeek 8\nAcrylic Landscape Painting inspired by Sidney Nolan\nThis week Teens will develop and finish their unique Australian landscape painting. \nIf time you will paint your fired hybrid creatures ready to take home and enjoy. \n \nNote\nPlease supply and apron or art shirt. Particularly when we are using acrylic paints. These protect your clothes! \nSketch book\nI intend that this course supports the students own creative journey. They should each bring a small sketch book with them\, to record and develop their own ideas\, dream up their own projects\, and practice drawing. Sometimes in the process of art making there is waiting time\, perhaps waiting for something to dry\, or to take turns in using a particular process or piece of equipment. During these times the student can be using their sketch book. \nCreative Kids Rebate\nYou can use a $50 Creative Kids Voucher if enrolling for a half or full term. To find out all about it and how to apply for your 2024 voucher please go to: www.service.nsw.gov.au/campaign/creative-kids \nNOTE: When enrolling for a course or workshop please make sure you put the appropriate number of students enrolling in the enrolment box.

SUMMARY:Drawing Fundamentals - Term 4 2024
DESCRIPTION:Program Term 4 2024\n8 WEEK PROGRAM\nTerm 4 we will work through a series of Still Life compositions in the studio\, each week a different subject\, exploring the use of different media.  We will then head outside for an ‘en plein air’ drawing experience\, and finish the term with creating a drawing of your own choice using a Matisse studio still life as your departure point and various studio props. Along the way we will learn principles of composition and look at how other artists have approached similar projects. \nWEEK 1\nStill Life: Vessels\nMedium: Pencil\nTo begin this term we will hone our observation and analytical skills\, as well as tuning in to our intuition as we draw vessels arranged in a still life\, using pencil and exploring its possibilities. \n \nWEEK 2\nStill Life: Plants\nMedium: Ink\nOur still life this week will be plant life and we will respond to it with ink. We will play with the possibilities of this expressive medium.  \n \nWEEK 3\nStill Life: Rocks and pebbles\nMedium: Charcoal\nExploring the inanimate\, we will draw a still life of rocks and pebbles using the elemental material charcoal. In particular we will focus on tone\, light and shade to create an illusion of the three dimensional on a two dimensional surface \nWEEK 4\nStill Life: Vegetables\nMedium: Soft pastel\nIntroducing primary and secondary colour we will use soft pastels with charcoal to draw this week’s vegetable still life.   \n \nWEEK 5\nStill Life: Fruit\nMedium: Oil pastel\nOur still life series will finish with fruit\, and more colour using oil pastels. We will explore the use of this bold medium and play with wax resist. \nWEEK 6\n‘En Plein Air’\nDrawing outdoors is a different experience to being inside…wind\, rain\, sun\, insects\, etc! Conditions permitting\, we will head outside to Mona Vale Headland to draw. This week we will look at the macro as we attempt broad landscape in nature. \n \nWEEK 7\n‘En Plein Air’\nDrawing outdoors is a different experience to being inside…wind\, rain\, sun\, insects\, etc! Conditions permitting\, we will head outside to Mona Vale Headland to draw. This week we will look at the micro as we attempt to draw often unnoticed and intricate patterns from nature. \n \nWEEK 8\nYour Choice\nDream up an idea\, choose your subject matter and your media\, maybe mixing it up\, and spend the lesson creating your drawing. \nMATERIALS & EQUIPMENT LIST\n\nPencils\, a range from 2B through to 6B\nCharcoal – willow\, various thicknesses\nSoft Pastels (small set of range of colours)\nPutty Erasers and Hard Erasures\nPencil sharpener or Stanley knife\nPaper\, A3 drawing pad\nApron (optional)\nBlack ink and soft brush (no 4 size)\nOil pastels: a small set of a range of colours

SUMMARY:Life Drawing - Term 4 2024
DESCRIPTION:Life drawing is a constant state of discovery and immediacy as we learn to see and feel the human form from a drawing perspective. \nArtist and tutor Christine Simpson will take you on a journey to explore the landscape of the human figure. We will consider in different sessions rhythm; form; depth; gravity; the power of the line; tonal shapes and relationships; emotional sensations; shadow-play; and the building blocks of anatomy. \nIn these life drawing sessions we are involved in the act of seeing both the energy and construction of the human form to render a sense of what is\, rather then slavishly trying to get there by copying. We are endeavouring to see creatively and not to use the thinking brain to analyse and objectify. \nThis Term we will be specifically focusing on volume and depth in our life drawing practice. \nClass dates\n\nOctober 17th\nOctober 31st\nNovember 14th\nNovember 28th\nDecember 12th\n\nMaterials List\n\n6B\, 2B and HB lead pencils\nGraphite stick\nWillow charcoal\nPutty erasure\nA3 drawing pad\n\nPrivacy Agreement for Online Students\nTo protect our models privacy Sydney Art Space makes it clear that online\, or indeed face to face students do not have permission to record images of the model or distribute images and that it is illegal to do so without consent\, which in this case would not be given. So that we are all on the same page there will be a form regarding model privacy sent out upon enrolment to sign before inclusion in the online classes. \nNOTE: When enrolling for a course or workshop please make sure you put the appropriate number of students enrolling in the enrolment box.
