DESCRIPTION:Life drawing is a constant state of discovery and immediacy as we learn to see and feel the human form from a drawing perspective. \nArtist and tutor Christine Simpson will take you on a journey to explore the landscape of the human figure. We will consider in different sessions rhythm; form; depth; gravity; the power of the line; tonal shapes and relationships; emotional sensations; shadow-play; and the building blocks of anatomy. \nIn these life drawing sessions we are involved in the act of seeing both the energy and construction of the human form to render a sense of what is\, rather then slavishly trying to get there by copying. We are endeavouring to see creatively and not to use the thinking brain to analyse and objectify. \nThis Term we will be specifically focusing on volume and depth in our life drawing practice. \nClass dates\n\nMay 8th\nMay 22nd\nJune 5th\nJune 19th\nJuly 3rd\n\nMaterials List\n\n6B\, 2B and HB lead pencils\nGraphite stick\nWillow charcoal\nPutty erasure\nA3 drawing pad\n\nPrivacy Agreement for Online Students\nTo protect our models privacy Sydney Art Space makes it clear that online\, or indeed face to face students do not have permission to record images of the model or distribute images and that it is illegal to do so without consent\, which in this case would not be given. DESCRIPTION:Christine’s sculpture classes will include instruction and demonstrations in: \n\nArmature building: Wire building under the form\nModelling in: clay\, plasticine\, and wax\nModelling directly in plaster or cement\nCasting in Plaster\, Acrylic Resin and Cement\nWaste Moulds and Repeat System Moulds in Silicone\nBronzing options\nFound Objects\nFinishing and Patinas\n\nWhether it is your first experience in sculpting and form building\, or you come with some skills\, Christine will meet you at that level and guide you from there. DESCRIPTION:WEEK 1 \nCharcoal Drawing \nThe Portrait after John Singer Sargent \nExploring Chiaroscuro and mark making techniques using charcoal \n \nWEEK 2 \nPencil Drawing \nThe Self Portrait: investigating light and shade using the mirror \nUnderstanding the different qualities of 2B\, 4B\, 6B and 8B pencils\, smudge sticks and erasures. \nWEEK 3 \nCharcoal and Acrylic paint \nThe Self Portrait: Expressive \nMonotonal study on canvas \nHomework: Selfie to print out as black and white A4 image using the concept of chiaroscuro \nThis week drawing up the image in charcoal on canvas exploring tonal shapes and values. \n  \nWEEK 4 \nContinuation of Week 3 \nAcrylic paint \nThe Self Portrait: Expressive \nMonotonal study on canvas \nThis week:  Acrylic monotonal painting of the selfie image\, using paint as a drawing material over the charcoal investment drawing of the week before. \nWEEK 5 \nCollage and charcoal \nDeconstructing the photographic selfie image and rearranging it to create an abstraction which will then be redrawn as an experimental image in charcoal on A3 paper. \n  \nWEEK 6 \nLinocut Printmaking \nDrawing charcoal \nThe Landscape after Harry Stooshinoff \nParticipants will work from a Stooshinoff printout to develop an A5 drawing composition using various mark making techniques: hatching\, stippling\, shading. \nTracing and transferring drawing compositions onto the lino in preparation for cutting. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
