Bas-Relief is a kind of sculpture in which shapes are carved so that they are only slightly higher than the flat background in which they are modelled, think of coins as a good example. In this course you will learn the basic drawing and modelling techniques on flat clay bases required for the illusions of depth to be created. We will also look at drawing and carving designs into clay. These finished clay works will then be taken for firing by the tutor at the end of Term to Brookvale Ceramics, to be picked up from Sydney Art Space at the beginning of the following Term. Colouring of your work will be discussed during the course.
