Each session will introduce the student to new drawing techniques developing essential observational skills and learning about form, tone & rendering styles using graphite, charcoal, conte, pastels, ink, & coloured pencils.

Students will be guided through various drawing techniques to improve their drawing skills, gaining more confidence as they find their self expression. The course will cover still life, landscape, plein air sketching, figurative, portrait & loose expressive drawing.

Theme Term 3: Volume and Shading

Our world is a three dimensional one.

In taking it as our subject to draw, we translate it into two dimensions.

In this course we will tune into geometry. We will observe how the world is composed of combinations of geometric volumes. Each week we will take a different volume, explore its geometry, draw it using various media, developing techniques of shading to render its three dimensional form. We will find subjects to draw from real life that correspond to each geometric volume.
