Experimental Painting and Drawing
Term 2 2016

“There is no such thing as a failed experiment, only experiments with unexpected outcomes.” – Richard Buckminster Fuller
This course will provide you with the skills and confidence to experiment and potentially develop new approaches to painting and drawing, nurturing and opening your artistic endeavours to other ways of creating.
During the first five weeks we will look at a range of materials, techniques and processes. This period will cover some of the more traditional mediums such as charcoal, pastel, watercolour, acrylic and linoleum printing. Consideration will be given to colour, line, tone, texture and development of composition. Time will be set aside to play with these acquired skills, leading to the discovery of new ways of working within this genre.
Emphasis will be placed on finding a personal rhythm and via experimentation the materials and methodologies that work best for you. The second half of the course will allow you to develop your own project or body of work, integrating your personal interests with your new knowledge and further experimentation.
