Illustrating for Creative Writing
16 & 17 July 2016

Illustration is the art of storytelling through images. Illustrating a narrative creates a subtext for words while communicating and orchestrating an emotional response and enhancing the duplicity of words and pictures.
Like theatre, it allows the reader a glimpse into another dimension beyond the words.
This weekend workshop will explore the visual possibilities of illustrating a piece of creative prose.
Day 1:
The prose will be created in the class with each participant contributing words and lines to create one overall piece of text. This will be created and developed together with creative drawing exercises, using a variety of techniques and mediums including paints, inks, collage and printing. Participants will experiment with different mediums and engage in a variety of creative exercise to generate ideas to illustrate the created text.
Day 2:
Each participant will develop a creative, illustrative response to the creative prose proposed on Day 1.
Nettie will provide individual feedback and one on one guidance to each participant to enable a solid understanding of the illustration process and develop confidence in generating visual ideas into illustration.
