NBCS Kids Art Club

The creative act is fundamental in providing an opportunity for children to connect with their innate creativity whilst having fun! Join artist and arts educator Christine Simpson to explore a range of techniques/materials focusing on building foundational skills whilst children find and develop their creative expression. Watercolour, pencil, charcoal, clay and pastels will be among the materials used to build unique compositions. We will weave into our work the seasons, nature, dreams and story as we draw inspiration from life & imagination.

Week 1: My Favourite Marsupial: The Koala
Sculpture

Children will hand build in clay to create their special favourite marsupial which will be fired and then painted to take home and enjoy.

Week 2: Kangaroo Mobiles
Drawing Painting Cutting Arranging

First session: Children will be investigating the movements of the kangaroo to then draw and colour via acrylic paint playing with their interpretations.

WEEK 3: Kangaroo Mobiles
Drawing Painting Cutting Arranging

Session 2: Children will paste and cut their previous week’s drawings and arrange these as a kangaroo mobile.

WEEK 4: Kangaroo Paws
Drawing Cutting and Stencilling

Children will be inspired by the prints of Sydney artist Margaret Preston to draw and make a floral stencil or their own creation.

WEEK 5: The Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree
Graphite And Charcoal Drawing

Children will learn about mark making and tonal studies to create their special drawing of our iconic Kookaburra.

WEEK 6: Christmas Bells
Sculpture Drawing Cutting and Assembling

Children will draw, cut, paste and assemble a beautiful arrangement of Christmas Bells (Epacris) for the family table.

WEEK 7: Summer Beach
Drawing and Watercolour

Children will explore what the summer beach looks like to them before drawing these ideas and then developing the drawings as watercolours.

WEEK 8: Koalas
Sculpture

Children will paint up their now fired koalas to take home and enjoy, or perhaps give to a loved one as a special Christmas gift.
