Overview:

Week 1

Understanding proportions
Developing a clay foundation
Developing slab hand building techniques

Week 2

Building on our clay foundations
Learning how to support the superstructure
Problem solving for balance and proportions

Week 3

Finalising the overall form
Mark making
Surface texture

Week 4

Making the sculpture your own, adding your own mark making if desired
Finishing the modelling
Discussing firing options and patinas

Art Materials You will need for the Henry Moore Sculpture Challenge:

  • 1 Bag medium grog clay for hand building
  • 1 wooden board to build sculpture on
  • Scissors
  • Kitchen knife
  • Fishing line for cutting clay
  • Plastic bag (lightweight dry cleaning bag ideal) for covering between sessions

Face to face tutoring information

Christine’s sculpture classes will include instruction and demonstrations in:

  • Armature building: Wire building under the form
  • Modelling in: clay, plasticine, and wax
  • Modelling directly in plaster or cement
  • Casting in Plaster, Acrylic Resin and Cement
  • Waste Moulds and Repeat System Moulds in Silicone
  • Bronzing options
  • Found Objects
  • Finishing and Patinas

Whether it is your first experience in sculpting and form building, or you come with some skills, Christine will meet you at that level and guide you from there. You will work on your own projects using drawings and images for your inspirational starting point.

The language of form awaits, bring your creative energy, it’s time to explore and have some fun!
