Olya Kudryavtseva
Olya is a self-trained artist who has been in her arts practice for the past 10 years. She began her arts journey with Watercolour and Illustration, having learnt many of her various skills at first online and then developed her practice via hands on experience. For Olya it is all in the doing and undoing to learn new ways of creating and exploring, a road all true creatives take, learning rules to break the rules and create something unique unto themselves.
One of Olya’s passions is Contemporary Embroidery, she views thread as a versatile medium that can add texture, vibrancy and interest to the viewer. Olya uses her knowledge to create wearable art pieces and upcycle garments otherwise destined for landfill. Olya believes in up-cycling. There is a lot of satisfaction in giving a second life to clothes and items she already owns. Combining acrylic paint, thread, sequins and not limiting herself to any particular technique she changes old into gold!
Embroidery is an amazing technique that allows an image to flow from your imagination to a garment such as your favorite jeans, shirt, jacket or a blanket! It has no limits and this art form embraces mistakes and imperfections to potentially unleash and make unique artworks.
