Teens Art Club
Term 4 2022

Join our fabulous artist and arts tutor Christina Frank as she guides you through a wonderful creative program. During the term students will explore a range of techniques/materials focusing on building foundational skills in drawing, painting and modelling in clay whilst harnessing their own unique creative expression. We will draw inspiration from life & imaginations weaving in the seasons, nature, dreams and story. Participants will also get the chance to work on and develop their own projects from home.
Amazing Trees
Trees are everywhere, but are amazing! Like people each tree, its branches, leaves and bark, is completely unique. Rooted in the earth they reach for the sky. They are life givers providing oxygen and using CO2, providing habitat to animals and birds, and give stability to soils, shade for all and they feed our souls. Our eucalypts are wonderfully diverse and beautiful, but at risk from climate change. This term we will make artworks using various techniques and mediums, inspired by amazing trees.
Week 1: En Plein Air tree drawing and bark rubbings
We will start by going outside. Using charcoal we will draw trees we find. We will look at the whole and its parts. We will collect leaves and nuts, sticks and bark and make bark rubbings with pencil and charcoal. These will be the beginning of a collection of artworks to make up personal artist book.
Week 2: Collected Leaves
Start making an artist book
Drawing, printing and painting we will make artworks from the leaves, nuts, sticks and bark collected last week. We will start to design and construct our own artist book which will incorporate our artworks from this week and last. It may include natural materials collected and include some text if you would like to.
Week 3: Artist book of trees
Continue and finish off making our own personal artist book.

Sketch book
I intend that this course supports the students own creative journey. They should each bring a small sketch book with them, to record and develop their own ideas, dream up their own projects, and practice drawing. Sometimes in the process of art making there is waiting time, perhaps waiting for something to dry, or to take turns in using a particular process or piece of equipment. During these times the student can be using their sketch book.
