March at Sydney Art Space

TERM 1 COURSEWORK

AUTUMN ARTSCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM: SNEAK PEEK

MARCH WORKSHOP

Sydney Art Space is happily up and running with coursework for Term 1 at Onespace, 63 Bassett Street, Mona Vale. With a funky industrial vibe, students are enjoying soaring ceilings, parking out front and a front north facing courtyard that our stone carving “rock stars” are getting right into on Saturday afternoons :)

As Mother Earth turns we are approaching the Season of Bana’marrai’yung, wet becoming cooler, the season of the spotted quoll: Marrai’gang. *

Marrai’gang is the largest marsupial carnivore surviving on the mainland of Australia. As an endangered species, the reintroduction of Eastern Quolls to NSW was carried out in 2018. Booderee National Park was selected as the rehabilitation habitat, which is located in the south of the Sydney Basin Bioregion.

Habitat loss and modification, habitat fragmentation, competition and predation from introduced predators, road mortality, destruction of shelter sites,1080 baiting and bushfires have contributed to a significant decline in spotted-tailed quoll numbers.

Fewer than 10,000 spotted-tailed quolls are estimated to now remain in the wild.

Did you know that the Narrabeen lagoon catchment was one of Marrai’gang’s territories? Although there have been no sightings in recent times…
